The Amalfi Coast, Limoncello and Southern Italy Conference

  While technically across the peninsula from the Amalfi coast, the Sorrento is a short 30 minutes from the Amalfi coastline.  But Sorrento has much to offer, and is the best location for a meeting in this area.  First of all, many of the towns along this area of Italy are steeply terraced, which can make a casual stroll more like hiking, a definitely turn off for some folks.  Sorrento, along the Corso Italia, is flat….that translates to easy walking to restaurants, shops, café’s and vantage points of the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, and the Mediterranean sea. 

 The ferry to Capri Island departs from Sorrento, and Sorrento is close to Vesuvius and Pompeii for a nice day trip.  On the other side of the peninsula, one can easily find Positano, Praiano, Amalfi, and Ravello.  In the other direction, Naples is across the bay, making it an easy day trip from Sorrento as well.  In the evenings, from the hotel roof top, you can watch the sun set over the Mediterranean, illuminating Mt. Vesuvius and Naples in the distance.  

Sorrento at the end of September and early October is beginning to slow down from the height of the tourist season, and the heat of the summer months is beginning to wane.  It’s the perfect time for visiting this area of Italy.

 Finding conference hotels in this area that are affordable is challenging, as room rates can be outrageously expensive.  This is compounded by the problem that reasonably priced rooms are often in locations that are difficult to get to, or more often than not, are in areas that are isolated from the historic centers of the towns.
